Bad Breath Frequently Asked
Questions
What is Bad
Breath?
Nearly all Bad
Breath originates from the mouth, mostly from the surface of the
tongue, below the gum line, between the teeth and other hard to
reach areas. The mouth is normally inhabitated by bacteria and the
balance between the different kinds of bacteria determines the
quality of your breath. The odour causing bacteria are anaerobic
which means they cannot live in the presence of oxygen. These
anaerobic bacteria inhibit the surface of the tongue by residing
between the papillae of the tongue and the back of the throat. This
naturally occurring bacteria is supposed to be there as they assist
humans in digestion by breaking down proteins found in specific
foods, mucous, blood and oral tissue. This bacteria feed on
proteins (oral debris) and produce what we call volatile sulfur
compounds (VSC) as a by-product but unfortunately
for some these bacteria are higher in numbers and produce
much higher amounts of VSC causing Bad Breath.
Everyone has some
level of VSC in their mouth, but it is at a low level that can not
be detected by the nose. When these levels of VSC increase it then
becomes detectable as Bad Breath medically known as
Halitosis.
What Causes Bad
Breath?
Anything that
decreases saliva flow or stimulates the growth of anaerobic
bacteria.
Saliva irrigates the
mouth, stimulates swallowing and therefore flushes debris away.
Morning breath occurs due to the decreased salivary flow during
sleep. As saliva contains oxygen, the dryer your mouth the thicker
your saliva, the less washing action and the lower oxygen levels
which then create a more anaerobic environment for bacteria to
produce sulfur compounds. Alcohol, smoking, certain mouthwashes
containing alcohol (as alcohol drys your mouth out), certain
medications, antihistamines, dehydration and stress can also reduce
the flow of saliva and effect your breath. Other causes of
Bad Breath can be genetics, hormonal changes, dry mouth, post nasal
drip, sinusitis and high protein foods.
How Do I fix
Bad Breath?
The only
scientifically proven and clinically effective method of halting
Bad Breath is by attacking the bacteria's ability to produce VSC
and by converting the VSC into non odourous and non tasting organic
salts. Oxyd-8 is the active ingredient in TheraBreath® products that prevents the bacteria from
creating VSC and converts the VSC into non odourous
salts and Zytex™ is the
active ingredient in the BreathRx® range that neutralises bad breath.
What is
TheraBreath?
The TheraBreath® system is not
simply a mouthwash or toothpaste. The clinically tested products
feauture a wide range of scientifically proven ALL
NATURAL formulas that attack ALL sources of
Bad Breath, including the tongue, throat, gum tissue and tonsils.
These ALL NATURAL ingredients include the
oxygenating molecule Oxyd-8(R), Zinc Gluconate,Tea Tree Oil,
Xylitol, Essential Oils of Mint, CoQ10 and Concentrated Aloe Vera.
TheraBreath formulas DO NOT contain any alcohol,
sodium lauryl sulfate which can actually make the problem worse,
saccharin, benzalkonium chloride or any artifical colours or
flavours. TheraBreath® products all have
a long shelf life of three years.
How Does
TheraBreath Work?
TheraBreath attacks
Bad Breath directly with a two pronged approach.
1. The Oxyd-8
component removes the sulfur producing bacteria at the heart
of bad breath.
2. The Oxyd-8
instantly converts existing sulfur compounds, whether derived from
food (onions and garlic) or bacterially produced into non odourous
and non tasting sulfate salts.
Other great benefits
from the TheraBreath range are Zinc which literally puts a straight
jacket around the Bad Breath bacteria and with the added strength
of the Oxyd-8, Bad Breath is knocked out for 12 hours or
more.TheraBreath also contains natural mineral components that
prevent the build up of plaque and tartar.
